Furniture Buying Guide

Furniture Buying Guide

Finding the right furniture starts with your room—not with scrolling through hundreds of products. Use this guide to narrow your choices by room, available space, everyday use and budget.

Start With Four Questions

  1. Which room are you furnishing? Start with the room so size, materials and function stay relevant.
  2. How much usable space do you have? Measure the wall, floor area, doorway, hallway and stair clearance before ordering.
  3. What must the furniture do? Decide whether you need everyday seating, guest sleeping, storage, flexible modules or a work surface.
  4. What is your comfortable budget? Include any mattress, assembly or accessory costs needed to complete the room.

I have limited space

Choose compact silhouettes, visible legs, storage furniture and pieces that perform more than one function. Start with Apartment-Size Furniture and read our Small-Space Furniture Guide.

I need flexible seating

Modular sectionals can be rearranged as a room changes. Loveseats suit smaller walls, while sofa beds add occasional sleeping space. Compare options in the Sofa and Sectional Size Guide.

I need more bedroom storage

Look for beds with drawers, nightstands with closed storage, dressers and wardrobes. Use the Bedroom Furniture Size & Storage Guide before choosing.

I need the right dining size

Dining furniture needs enough seating plus walking and chair-pullout space. Review the Dining Table Size Guide before shopping Dining Tables.

Measure Before You Buy

  • Record product width, depth and height.
  • Measure every doorway, hallway, stair turn and elevator on the delivery path.
  • Mark the furniture footprint on the floor with painter's tape.
  • Leave room for doors, drawers, recliners and dining chairs to open.
  • Confirm package count and assembled dimensions on the product page.

Need More Help?

Use the store search with a specific phrase such as “gray modular sectional,” “twin daybed with trundle” or “desk with storage.” If you still need help, contact Voco Store with your room dimensions, preferred furniture type, color and budget.
